Greasy Hair

GREASY HAIR

When your sebaceous glands malfunction and produce too much sebum, you have greasy hair. Sebum is meant to protect your hair, but when there is too much of it, hair gets heavier, oily, flat...

CAUSES. Greasy hair can be hereditary or the result of a hormonal imbalance, or too much stress, exhaustion and/or an unbalanced diet. Greasy hair can also be caused by products that are not adapted to your scalp. For example, a shampoo that is too gentle can fail to remove the sebum and a shampoo that is too aggressive can cause a sebum overproduction (defence mechanism).

SOLUTIONS. It is easy to fight greasy hair. Here’s some advice...

SHAMPOO. Don’t wash your hair more often than every 2 days, and use shampoo suited to greasy hair. The best shampoos for greasy hair are the clay-based ones: they absorb the excess of sebum but are not aggressive. Insist on the greasy areas: the roots (not the ends, you might dry them out). Don’t rub your scalp, massage it gently so you don’t stimulate the sebaceous glands and sebum production. Don’t use hot water.

Our advice: use K pour Karité’s cream shampoo, a true care product formulated with clay, macadamia oil and shea olein. It combines two essential actions for greasy hair: clay detoxifies and balances your hair, and the oils hydrate it.

CARE
. If your hair gets easily tangled or your ends are dry, you can use conditioner as long as you don’t apply it near your roots. You can also apply a clay mask in addition to the clay shampoo. However, be careful not to use to many clay-based products, you might dry out your scalp or your ends.

Our advice: apply a K pour Karité’s detox mask once a week. To hydrate your hair and nourish your ends, apply the mask (but avoid the roots). If your ends are very dry (mixed hair), you can even hydrate them with our Absolu Nectar, still avoiding the roots.

DRYING/STYLING. Gently towel-dry your hair, without rubbing. Heat increases sebum production so don’t blowdry your hair too much, and if you do, keep the blowdryer as far away from the roots as possible.

Our advice: To give more volume to weighed-down hair, use our styling spray. It’s also perfect to hold updos. Avoid richer products like cream or wax.

DAY-TO-DAY. Try to have a balanced diet with as little sugar and fat as possible and a lot of fruits, vegetables, cereals and proteins.
